| ESPN NFL analyst/insider Sal Paolantonio, who is based in Philadelphia and knows the Eagles’ landscape well, told radio talk show host Colin Cowherd this morning that Philadelphia “has to move” former Arizona quarterback Nick Foles after reviewing new coach Chip Kelly’s spread offense at Oregon.
“Chip Kelly was mostly successful at Oregon when his quarterback ran the ball at least 100 times,” Paolantonio said on The Herd with Colin Cowherd Show. “Nick Foles is not that type of quarterback. Philadelphia has to move him out and get more quarterbacks in that fit Kelly’s system.” |
Philadelphia already has signed free-agent quarterback Dennis Dixon, who played for Kelly at Oregon, to back up veteran starter Michael Vick. Paolantonio told Cowherd that the Eagles will not stop with Dixon. Because of the wear and tear running quarterbacks endure in the NFL, Paolantonio believes the Eagles will draft another mobile quarterback (perhaps Florida State’s E.J. Manuel and/or Arizona’s Matt Scott).
Washington’s Robert Griffin III rushed the ball 125 times but missed games because of a concussion and leg injuries. He could not finish the Redskins’ playoff game with Seattle because of an ACL tear.
Nick Foles might be moving to another NFL team next season
Michael Vick rushed 62 times for the Eagles but concussion problems forced Foles into action as the former UA quarterback — more of a dropback passer — played in seven games with six starts.
Kelly told reporters today at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis that he wants to coach Foles.
“I wanna spend time with him and see him,” Kelly is quoted as saying by BleedingGreenNation.com. “I’ve said it before, I was a big fan of the way he plays the game, his toughness, his ability to throw the ball very accurate.”
Foles’ former coach Andy Reid, who is now the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, refused to talk to the media about Foles at the scouting combine because Foles is under contract. Foles is rumored in potential trade talks involving Kansas City.
“He’s not available,” Reid told reporters. “Nick is the property of the Philadelphia Eagles and they like him.”

Wonder what kind of relationship Arians and Rodriguez will develop, considering? Still, it’s not like the Cardinals have been drafting and developing and playing Cat players lately (ever, really). Scott may have been hindered a bit in his senior all-star game by not having operated for a while in a more traditional huddle, play call and go system. But if he doesn’t make it I don’t believe that will be the reason. I defer to Coach Rich because he knows what type QB wins. And that’s good enough. The Rodriguez to Kelly, UA to Philly pipeline may be just what the doctor orders as no one spreads ‘em better than these two coaches. Now if Arians could do for Foles what he did for Luck…for Arizona what he did for Indianapolis…
