Could it be that playing Colorado gives teams a false sense of security? Whatever the reason, five Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) teams that have played the Buffaloes this season have lost the following week.
Does that mean that USC, which routed Colorado 50-6 in Los Angeles on Saturday, is in for a long afternoon next week at Arizona Stadium?
“We have a tougher challenge next week,” USC quarterback Matt Barkley told a Pac-12 Network interviewer after the game. “But if we prepare the way we did this week, we should be in good shape.”
One of USC’s challenges, it seems, is to overcome the Colorado Curse. Here’s the result of FBS opponents that have faced the Buffaloes this season:
| Date | Team | vs. Colorado | Following game |
|---|---|---|---|
| 9/1/12 | Colorado St. | beat Buffaloes 22-17 | lost to North Dakota St. 22-7 |
| 9/15/12 | Fresno St. | beat Buffaloes 69-14 | lost to Tulsa 27-26 |
| 9/22/12 | Washington St. | lost to Buffaloes 35-34 | lost to Oregon 51-26 |
| 9/29/12 | UCLA | beat Buffaloes 42-13 | lost to Cal 43-17 |
| 10/11/12 | Arizona St. | beat Buffaloes 51-17 | lost to Oregon 43-21 |
| 10/20/12 | Southern Cal | beat Buffaloes 50-6 | play at Arizona 10/27 |
